Great Cities and Battlefields of Europe
Students have the opportunity to travel to Europe as part of the Humanities biannual tour. Countries and places of study and interest include London, Paris, Belgium, Gallipoli and Istanbul. The trip departs during the last week of school in Term 3 and returns during the second week of the school holidays (approx. 16 days in total)
During our time in London we visit some key places of historical interest including Buckingham Palace, Tower of London, Winston Churchill’s War Rooms, Natural History Museum and Westminster Abbey. The final evening in London allows the students to experience all that the West End Theatre has to offer. Travelling by Eurostar our next destination is Paris where we soak up more wonderful historical sites (Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, Le Louvre, Notre Dame Cathedral etc).
The Battlefield tour begins in the Somme visiting Pozieres and Villers-Bretonneux with its Australian Memorial and Adelaide Cemetery as well as visits to Passchendaele area and Ypres (Menin Gate). The tours extends to Gallipoli where the students visit Lone Pine, Anzac Cove, Brighton Beach, Johnston’s Jolly, Quinns Post and the Nek. The final leg of the trip is a tour of Istanbul, visiting the magnificent Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and the Grand Bazaar.
An amazing experience with a lifetime of memories!
